When the Trainer Can't Train
Hi guys! Amber here! Did I get your attention? What could I possibly mean by 'the trainer can't train?' It's actually more simple than it sounds, yet it's not. This post is giving me all kinds of feels, so I'm just going to knock it out so I can get out the door and conquer my fear of the gym today. Yes, I'm afraid of the gym today. You see, I've had an injury that has had me sidelined since NOVEMBER and I haven't been able to work anything lower body since then. Talk about screwing with your body and mind! So that's what I mean by 'when the trainer can't train.' How am I supposed to be motivating not only mentally, but also physically to my clients and bootcampers when I'm soft, gained weight, and can't train?!? It has been a struggle, I can tell you. I was recently diagnosed with a partially torn labrum and hip dysplasia and it hurts like a MOFO most of the time. This past Friday I had my first cortisone injection for it and I am doing some physical therapy to see if we can avoid any surgical route. Today, since 8:30, I have worked on this website (I'm telling myself), but really, I have been putting off the gym. I want to attempt some lower body exercises (simple movements, low reps) to see how my body reacts, but FEAR has me still sitting in my office chair. Fear of the pain, fear of failure, fear of not lifting like I could before, fear of looking out of shape to others in the gym . . . those awful four letters, FEAR. I decided to write this blog for a couple of reasons . . . one -- we need some content on this dang page we just started (ha!) and two -- to motivate MYSELF to get off my dang butt and get to work. Fear has never stopped me before. Fear of skydiving, flying, starting my own business, relocating, running a Spartan race, walking into the gym alone . . . You can let the fear paralyze you, or you can let it motivate you. I may be "soft" right now and definitely not as "in shape" as I should be as a trainer, but sitting around won't fix the problem. So, today, now, after I hit Publish for this blog post, I will pack up my little bag and head off to the gym. I have my workout written out (I'll be sure to post it for you!), my playlist ready, and my mindset is kindasortasomewhat there. :) Are you afraid to take the first step in getting healthy? Is it always tomorrow or "I'll start Monday"? Is there a reason you haven't taken something on in your life? What is holding you back? Is it fear of change? Fear of failure? Have you tried it 1000 times and you feel like it just won't work? I can tell you, I've been there. I am there. Today I am taking a deep breath, putting on my oversized headphones and walking into that gym to kill this workout....Molly and I are excited to start this site for people JUST LIKE US. We are normal people with goals, but we have a talent (and certification) for writing awesome workouts and we want to share that with the world. If you are looking for your sign to get up and work out, HERE IT IS! If you don't have access to the gym, check out our posted workouts that you can do at home!!!
